The sale of BMW Sauber does not guarantee their place among the F1 line up next year, leaving Renault as a possible option for Kubica.
BMW may have recently sold their F1 team to the Qadbak consortium, but next year's grid is set at 26 cars. For Kubica to remain in his current team, the rules would need to be amended so that next year's grid can have 28 cars or if one of the currently listed teams for next year pulls out.
Prior to the Crashgate hearing last Monday, many speculated that Renault would be leaving F1 regardless of the Crashgate outcome. Renault however have restated their commitment to F1 for next year despite having lost 2 key team members in Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds, along with the much speculated but yet to be announced departure of their star driver Fernando Alonso.
It would now seem unlikely that any of the teams listed for next year will pull out, leaving Kubica with little options. Kubica has admitted he would like to stay where he is but given that there is no spot for them next year, a switch to Renault seems like a realistic option.
